My 2 Dads

Braylon Edwards was four years old when his parents divorced. Nothing unusual there, as it seems everyone in American these days has a relative or friend who’s had a similar experience. But Braylon’s dad Stanley (above, left) earned his living as a professional football player and after his parents split, Braylon’s mom married Charles Plater, an educator who today earns his living as a math and community science teacher at Detroit’s Denby High School. Stanley Edwards also eventually remarried but remained an important part of his son’s life. So Braylon Edwards grew up receiving the support and love from two men, not just one.

“Growing up, it was something I reallytook pride in,” says the Cleveland Browns 24-year-old wide receiver. “Some kids aren’t lucky enough to have one father, and I have two. More importantly, I was lucky to have two that never quarreled. They always respected each other, and I respected their roles in my life.”
