An Unbreakable Bond
On the field, NFL defensive lineman Jarvis Green played an
integral part of the New England Patriots’ 2007-2008
undefeated season. Off the field, however, he’s proven
an even more powerful force.
Formed in 2007, his Jarvis Green Foundation (www.jarvisgreen.com)
has held several fundraisers aimed at helping both single
mothers and survivors of Hurricane Katrina, the category five
storm that devastated the New Orleans area in 2005. Green,
a native of Donalsonville, LA, lost five cousins in the hurricane,
and 10 members of his extended family saw their homes destroyed.
In the aftermath, he felt it his duty to help those who could
not help themselves. One of his foundation’s most recent
fundraisers, a wine tasting held on Sept 21, 2007 at the Johnson
and Wales Hotel in Seekonk, MA, raised more than $60,000 for
Katrina victims alone.
“You hear a lot about the big stories, but you never
hear about the smaller stories, and they’re still going
on today, people trying to get assistance from the government,
people without homes,” said Green. “So after the
storm, I started my foundation. It gives me a chance to get
into the community and help -- it’s my community, after
all.”
